Charming Jane’s Cottage–Inspired Rebuild with ADU

I’m a homeowner preparing to rebuild after fire loss and am seeking a thoughtful builder who understands Altadena’s character and the care required to rebuild well.

The project is a new single-family home with a detached ADU, designed to be efficient, comfortable, and well integrated into the neighborhood.

Project Overview

Main House: 1,458 SF

Finished Attic: 600 SF (primarily flexible storage / bonus space)

Detached ADU: 323 SF

The attic space will be finished but primarily used for storage and flexible use, helping maximize the functionality of the home without expanding the footprint.

Design Intent

The goal is to create a home that feels warm, practical, and enduring, balancing thoughtful architecture with efficient construction. The design emphasizes natural light, simple roof forms, and a clean exterior that fits comfortably within the surrounding neighborhood fabric.

Builder Fit

We are looking for a builder who:

Communicates clearly and collaborates well during construction

Has experience with Altadena rebuild projects and LA County permitting

Understands the importance of thoughtful detailing and durable construction

Can deliver a well-built home that honors the history of the style

The ADU is intended to provide additional living flexibility, while the finished attic creates usable bonus space without increasing the main footprint.

This project is an opportunity to build a carefully designed, right-sized home with an ADU, and we’re looking for the right builder to bring it to life.
